Thank You Wendy!

What greater inspiration could there be,

Than to know a paddler named Wendy?

Who once lay unconscious down on the dock

And left her team members in a state of shock.

Emergency personnel around her did hover,

Jackets were produced to give her cover,

And since she didn’t fill out her medical form,

We all stood around, feeling quite forlorn.

One thing is for sure, she didn’t look so fine,

her age was asked, and someone said “Why, she’s 69.”

Well, Wendy slammed on the brakes on her way to heaven

She opened her eyes and said, “I’m only 67!”

And so, not wanting to tempt fate,

Peter suggested the last race in her honour to dedicate.

And while she at home in her bed did recline

We paddled smart and in time to the start line.

And so the team, bearing all this in mind

At the start line of the last race did itself find

We blasted off from the start like a space rocket

And all the way we had the race in our pocket.

And who cares that we strayed a bit to the side

Since our lead of the pack was so mighty wide

And who was most surprised with our lead of the pack?

Why, none other than a coach named Pat!

There were grunts and shouts of encouragement on the boat

And Jan yelled so hard she had a sore throat

And there is no greater reward, I am told,

Than such winning memories in your heart to hold.

Way to go, Eh Team!!
