The Kilburn family once again came through in style
and the team barbeque gave us reason to smile
with the fire chief handling the corn pot and grill
and Cody the husky waiting anxiously for a spill.
Sunday is promising to be another exciting day
for this year we’ve made it to division Silver A.
And as we aspire to the higher rank
our medal expectations are a bit in the tank.
But Pat has warned us about this possible event
long before we line up in the marshalling tent
and we’re trained and we’re pumped and ready for action
although sometimes we think we need to be in traction.
So Doug steers us out to the starting line
and Jan encourages us all to be strong and in time
the starts are quick, just like before
and we jump off the line with a mighty Eh Team roar.
It’s a mighty close race that is so easy to tell
for all that us paddlers hear is the other drummers yell
How many Power 10’s did we do, four, perhaps five
Heaven help us, if there is one more, I won’t be alive.
I need to see that big yellow buoy before I expire
But the crowds cheering makes our spirits go higher
We’re pushing with our legs now and giving it hell
Until finally we hear that welcome ‘Let it run’ yell.
And the times of most teams was a mere 2:22
with hundredths of seconds between place four and place two
it’s races like this that make the pain all worthwhile
we think, as we climb off the boat with a smile.
We’re racing in divisions exactly where we should be
And what will happen in Kelowna – well, let’s see.
