Dragon Zone Poem Women's Regatta Ode To Wendy San Francisco Victoria Harrison Alcan 2009 Goodbye Doug Hunter Dragon Zone 2009 FCRCC ‘C’ Division Champions Barnett Bash Deep Cove Dash Victoria 1st. Regatta Final 2008 Poem

By Ute Gust

We were ready for race four, there was no hesitation

and we hoped to end the day with a standing ovation.

Those two great Kilburns were controlling our fate

and lined us up perfectly at the starting gate.

Our start was good, despite winds and strong tides

and we blasted out of the gate to save our sweet hides.

Now one thing that the Eh Team knows for sure

- we always paddle best in race number four

and this was certainly no exception to that rule

for if you thought that you would be a fool.

Our coach and team mates at the dock stood in awe

as an amazing team performance they saw.

I recall Jan saying “you’re gaining, you’re gaining”

and we know what to do since we have the training.

So we paddle still harder to achieve a great time

and finally heard ‘let it run’ as we crossed the finish line.

And as glance around with shocked looks on our faces

we can’t believe that we see no other racers.

This regatta is smaller and there are no awards

but Judy and I thought this team needs rewards.

To walk away with nothing just didn’t seem right

especially after we put up such a valiant fight.

Fortunately this situation can be easily rectified

since our combined brainpower is super fortified,

so we have fabricated medals of pure gold

to enhance all the great memories you hold.
