DEEP COVE DASH – 2009
2008 was a year to remember,
we proved that in Kelowna last September;
and in order to continue with this winning scheme
a fitness program was organized for the entire team.
Stretchy bands were purchased in a bright green,
and muscles were worked like you’ve never seen.
Our abs and triceps muscles were honed
as our bodies like fine machines were toned.
Cans were collected for the Vancouver Food Bank,
and for this we have the whole team to thank.
And we mustn’t forget all the used running shoes,
which were cleaned and dropped off in pairs of twos.
A walking group was meeting once a week,
to keep our bodies performing at their peak.
And to ensure that our spirits wouldn’t fail
we decided to walk the Cariboo gold rush trail.
Grandchildren were produced at an alarming rate,
Some arrived early, some came late, but all of them were worth the wait.
But finally it was time to get back in the boat
And it felt mighty good to watch it float.
So off to the Deep Cove Dash we went in haste
and raced 200 meters – so no time to waste.
In fact, Margurite was so inspired,
she purchased a paddle on her credit card before it expired.
And Barbara, all day she continued to beam
and said to me later, ”I really love this team“;
and that team in yellow that comes from our ‘hood,
well, we whipped their ass real good!
Little did we know that during the Cariboo gold rush trek
we would all end up with a nugget around our neck!
