Goodbye Doug Hunter
When the rest of the team at regattas was inspired
Doug always took a nap because he was tired;
but the cat’s out of the bag – we now know it all
it was because he spent half the night on the phone to Montreal.
You’ve been with us Doug, through thick and thin,
too bad you’re leaving us once we start to win!
The whole Eh Team you surely will miss
as you once again enjoy wedded bliss.
And if you find yourself pushing a baby carriage
because children are produced in this marriage;
just let us know quickly, without delay
and a handmade quilt will be on its way!
If the oppressive summer heat should get you down
or those deep winter potholes give you reason to frown
then Doug, please sit back and visualize
a life without mosquitoes and black flies.
For while we are sitting around in shirts with short sleeves
you will still be waiting for trees to have leaves;
and when our tulips and rhododendrons bloom
you’ll once again get that snow-blower out of its room.
Yes Doug, when through all this you start to despair
think of some of that fresh Pacific west-coast air;
remember the False Creek Ferries plying to and fro
and the Canada geese flying, all in a row.
Then take your brand new wife by the hand
and tell her ”Honey, its back to the promised land!“
for we have the perfect place for you and your bride,
and that is back in our boat, sitting side by side!
So as we bid you goodbye with a lump in our throat
remember, you’re welcome anytime in our dragonboat!
