 2008 – What a Year!

Up the Coquihalla Highway on Friday we all go

as the time has finally come for one last show.

We’ve practiced really, really hard all year

now our starting grunts everyone can hear.

Out we’ve been in the rain, snow, sewer and sun

and even managed to baptize poor Ray’s bum.

Injuries we have also had one or two,

but we are athletes - what can you do?

This year more than one heart has beat faster

and recently we were able to avoid disaster

when one of the two queens his feelings did hide

and quickly switched back to the other side.

On Saturday morning we all show up at the races

with looks of anticipation on our faces.

And Saturday night our guys can’t wait to get in line

for the tattoos and manicures that turn out just fine.

And as Sunday morning dawns bright and clear

we quickly realize we have nothing to fear

For it turns out that all the bright orange power nails

prevents us from paddling like a bunch of snails.

In fact it seems the orange polish gives us wings

for it’s into first place that our boat easily swings.

And we can barely keep the smiles from our faces

as the other boats realize they’re beaten by senior racers.

Our place in the bronze final is now secured

and it’s all up to us, of that we’re assured.

And what do we hear over a lunch of sausage and rolls?

- the Nothing Dragons reveal to us one of their goals

It seems that they would like nothing more

than to beat The Eh Team and even the score.

Well, being the good sports that we all are

we let them pass us, but just not too far.

For our real sights on the bronze final are set

as it is yet another medal that we want to get.

The starters’ horn sounds and off we blast

this is no longer the Eh Team of the past

for Dorothy is yelling instructions up front

and many a paddler gives a hefty grunt.

Tony is shouting encouragement in the middle

and we all know this is no time to dawdle

and Pat has us on a course just like an arrow

to keep us all going on the straight and narrow.

We paddle like crazy, like demons possessed

and can truly say that we have given it our best

We let the snot fly, we left it all in the boat

we’re so out of breath it even hurts our throat

We came in second with a time of 2:22

and that really was the best we could do.

Surprisingly, our lifejackets don’t pop open wide

for our chests have greatly expanded with pride.

It is now time to reflect on the reason

that have had such an excellent racing season.

Well dear friends, just please all gather near

since the reason for our success is absolutely clear.

We’re a team, we’re a team, it’s so easy to tell

and next year we are really going to give them hell.

And now the team poet is signing off for the year

Let’s all gather around for the famous Eh Team cheer!
