Viva Victoria!

The Victoria regatta is now a thing of the past

and once again the Eh Team had an absolute blast.

We ate, we visited, we warmed up and waited

but our appetite for racing could never be sated.

Where once people said, what’s your name, please tell,

we don’t think we know you at all very well?

Or they said it as if clearing their throat of phlegm

And we had to correct them, time and again.

Now when they see the black shirts with red letters

and we notice that many of them start to get jitters.

And so several times this weekend it came to pass

that we stepped into the boat to kick some ass.

The weather was great, what more can we say

we couldn’t have wanted it any other way.

The starter tried hard to mess up our show

when she said attentionpaddlesupandgo!

But by the time it came to race number five

the paddlers on our boat were alert and alive.

The horn blew, Pat and Tony started to yell

and all of us dug in and paddled like hell!

We knew it was close all through the race

the tension was etched in poor Pat’s face.

Tony screamed encouragement as he steered in back

we reached, we splashed but we stayed with the pack.

The noise from the other boats was off to our right

but the mighty Eh Team was up for this fight.

We hope Tony’s by-pass has healed very well,

since he will burst a blood vessel if he continues to yell.

Come on, you guys, you know you can do it,

you’re gaining on them”, and we paddle through it.

Several times we heard Pat scream power ten now,

and we gave it our all, and don’t even know how.

Finally we reached the multitude of fans

and knew this time we wouldn’t be ‘also rans’.

But where in the world is that darn yellow buoy

we needed to get there very soon or we’ll die.

And finally we see it, only a few more strokes

we can’t disappoint all these screeching folks.

And then we hear it, the phrase “Let it run

and we know this race has been absolute fun.

But where did we place, we surely need to know

especially after putting on such an amazing show.

We struggle off the boat and the next teams all say,

What a race, what a race, this was your day!

Even the Granddragons, with smiles on their faces

say they have truly enjoyed watching our races.

With adrenaline still pumping through our veins,

we know we stayed with the other four lanes.

We all huddle around the announcers booth

and could race it again, to tell you the truth.

Too close to call, is all the announcer can say

the Eh Team has never had such an exciting day

We lean on our paddles to stop us from falling,

and know that a cold beer our name is calling.

Finally, two 100ths of a second between 1 and 2

we gave it our best, that’s all we can do.

We’re beat, we’re hot, we’re tired and wet,

this is really as good as it can get!
